Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach high school students ages 13-18. My school is on a 4x4 block schedule and next term I am teaching 3 sections of World History (my passion!). My students are amazing! 68% come are Hispanic, another 11% are Black/African American and currently only about 80% of the 2400 students at this school graduate every year.
While they come from different backgrounds and different socioeconomic situations, my students are fun, kind, respectful, and eager to learn.
Unfortunately, they do not all come from good home lives and they come to school for safety and support.
These students, like every other student, deserve the best and my goal is to help them get it.
My Project
My school is in South Stockton, and therefore, most of my students come from low socio-economic households. Many of my students do not have the ability, or the support at home, to come to school with necessary supplies, such as pencils, paper, folders, etc.
My goal with this project is to help alleviate some stress in my students' lives and supply them with what they need in my classroom.
With the paper, I plan on making copies of any work my students need. Many do not have computers at home and benefit from paper work. The colored pencils are to bring creativity into my classroom and allow artistic students to shine! The folders are to assist my students in staying organized. And of course, in the middle of cold & flu season, tissues and hand-sanitizer are a must!!
Please help if you can! My students and I greatly appreciate your generosity!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
