With their own copies in hand, students were able to annotate, revisit key passages, and take ownership of their learning. Through this book, they practiced valuable skills such as close reading, analyzing symbolism and figurative language, identifying themes, and making personal and historical connections. These are the kinds of foundational skills that will support them in all areas of literacy and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is far more than silent, individual work—it's an active, engaging process filled with discussion, creativity, and collaboration. We use structured strategies like literature circles, group debates, and Socratic seminars to give students a chance to think deeply and share their voices. During our Gatsby unit, students explored character motivations, historical context, and the novel's lasting relevance in today's society. We even tied the novel to current events and music to show how themes of wealth, class, and longing still resonate. Having a full class set made these experiences possible—every student was able to follow along, mark the text, and contribute fully to our learning community.\r\n\r\nSome of the most rewarding moments came from students who don't typically see themselves as readers. One student who struggled with reading fluency was proud to finish the entire novel and shared how much they related to Gatsby's hope and determination. Another student who rarely participates in discussions led a powerful conversation on the symbolism of the green light and its connection to modern-day dreams. These are the breakthroughs that remind me why access to books matters so much. Your support didn't just provide a class set—it gave my students a voice, a chance to connect with literature in a meaningful way, and the confidence to express their ideas. From all of us, thank you for believing in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1742950131068,"projectUrl":"project/reading-materials/9171222/","projectTitle":"Reading Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Quiroz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9968739"},{"teacherId":9371513,"projectId":9121827,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom now has a fully stocked supply of feminine hygiene products and wet wipes and it's already making a quiet but powerful impact. These resources are helping students feel more comfortable and confident throughout the day, which directly supports their ability to focus and stay engaged. Your contribution has had a profound and lasting impact on our learning experiences this year.\r\n\r\nThe fetal pigs have become invaluable tools in our anatomy and physiology unit. Students have been actively engaged in the learning process, carefully dissecting the pigs to explore various organ systems and identify major organs. This hands-on experience has allowed them to observe the intricate structures of the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems firsthand. Furthermore, by comparing the pig's anatomy to their own, students have gained a deeper understanding of human biology and the shared characteristics of mammalian organisms.\r\n\r\nInitially, some students expressed apprehension about dissecting the pigs. However, these initial concerns quickly subsided as they became engaged in the learning process. Students were amazed by the complexity and delicate nature of the specimens.
