My Students

Our high school is made up of approximately 1000 students, grades 9-12. We have around 90% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite resources in the school and families sometimes being tight, our students are passionate about their learning. As a first-year high school librarian, my goal is to continue to build our library into the school’s informational and community hub.

It is imperative that each student is provided with a supportive environment in which each of their needs can be met.

Our library is built to inspire student creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. I strive to cultivate a library environment in which students are excited about learning, curiosity is fostered, and learning is a personal experience.

My Project

I am in the process of updating and modernizing our high school library. These book displays will display books in a way to attract and encourage reading. The displays can easily be changed out multiple times a week in order for students to easily find new books as well as books they love. I plan to display new books, award-winning books as well as books from every genre.

Book displays showcase hidden book gems that will spark creativity, stimulate curiosity for reading, and invoke a love for reading.

This project will also provide our library with basic supplies such as Kleenex tissue and hand sanitizer. These items are always in high demand.
