The students at HCMS that are included in the special needs program are fearfully and wonderfully made. These students know that just because they have a disability that does not mean that they do not have the ability to be just as successful as their peers. Many of them have mild to severe disabilities however they are very hard workers. We work diligently on a daily basis to find the best strategy that tailors each one of them. We have accepted challenges and collectively we come up with our classroom motto: welcome to productive struggle. Majority of the students served are from single parent homes with hardworking parents who are awesome providers. My goal as their teacher is to care of the academics while the parents handle the household. Many of their parents are all working hard to provide a living and the most they can truly offer is just their time. Many of them have no higher educational background than a high school diploma. We believe that with your help we can have our students college and/or career prepared!
My Project
I asked for composition notebooks because my students take a lot of notes and these books are really guide to refer back to for study guides and are able to be used during tests and it takes up less room than a three-ring binder. I requested hand putty and wrist handy grips to strengthen the hands of my students who have cerebral palsy so that they may be able to grip things better.
I requested a chromebook for my students because now we borrow chromebooks and have to return them at a certain time which causes an inconvenience because we require a lot of extended time.
