Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at an amazing Title I school where 85% of our students come from low socioeconomic status. Most of the families I serve have working parents with little or no education. Comprised of mostly minorities, our school has a spirit of unity that shines through. We are a large family nearing 900 students. The passion for learning is felt when you walk through the doors. I work with children with special needs in grades K through 5th. My students are loving and kind and have real determination. I strive to teach them the skills they need to be active participants in our community.

My Project

These materials will help make a difference in my students' with special needs learning because their families will not have to provide them. You see, many students at my school are at or below the poverty line.

Having individual school supplies will enable my students to feel prepared, responsible, and will limit classroom disruptions.

Arriving equipped for the school day also helps them feel confident in their ability to function in the classroom. Rather than depending on others for a pencil, they can, with the right supplies, achieve added independence. Another way school supplies affect student learning is by helping students engage with their assignments. Rather than hearing me talk, my students can demonstrate their learning by drawing and writing.
