This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title I school in Philadelphia and almost all receive free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast. They attend a typical inner city school. Most face serious obstacles before they even walk though the doors in the morning. Our goal is to make our school a safe and loving environment.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds and different countries.
This makes our school pretty special in so many ways. The students all work so hard and are very deserving of this project.
My Project
My students love to do hands-on math activities. The only problem with that is so many of them do not have the supplies to do them. We are in need of paper and colored pencils to make posters and log our data. We would like to make three-dimensional projects like cities and shapes out of paper. This way they are not only identifying the shapes but are creating them. This makes geometry much more relevant to my students. We are really big on STEM activities, and these supplies make it possible for us to do this in our classroom. The colored pencils the kids will use in the classroom daily with their personal interactive notebooks. We will do problems and drawings using these.
