My Students
My students come from a variety of different backgrounds and socioeconomic backgrounds. Many are on track to be 1st generation high school graduates, in hopes of taking the next step and furthering their education by going to college. At least 75% of my students fall into the category of either being from another country with parents who speak little to no English, being the 1st in their immediate family to attend college, having to work to help support the family, or being considered "homeless" because they no longer live in the same household as their parent(s) or guardian. The list goes on. My students are hardworking students who are excited about what the future holds for them after high school!
My Project
Supplies and having a routine is important to students. Many students come to school daily without the necessary supplies that are needed throughout the day in their classes. There are often times when I supply them with the "necessary tools" that they need in order to be successful in their classes, not just my class, but any class that they might need supplies for.
As you can imagine, as the year passes by, those supplies are depleted.
You never want to deny a child who is trying to accomplish and achieve their goals that opportunity because they don't have a pen or pencil to write with.
I have found that having a routine is essential in maintaining a smooth and effective classroom. By having the storage caddies, the wall calendar to track the class assignments, and the wall organizers to store missing assignments/absent work/extra handouts for each class everyone will have no excuse for not knowing where to find something that they are needing. Not only does is make things easier on the teacher but the students appreciate that routine and organization in the classroom. Cell phones can be a good and a bad thing in the classroom; good when used for educational purposes but becomes a distraction when student are constantly texting or playing games. The numbered hanging wall organizer will be great for eliminating this issues by assigning students a number and hanging them to placed their phone in the organizer as soon as they walk through the door.
