This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in a school where 98% of my students come from non-English speaking homes. Part of our daily routine is spent in phonics. This means we use a lot of pencils, dry erase markers, crayons, and paper. We need these supplies to be successful language learners, and so much Early Childhood Development happens when learning to write and read.

In first grade we are literally growing parts of our brain, and so much of this growing comes through phonological awareness, and phonics lessons.

We spend a large chunk of our phonics lessons learning how to write, read, and recognize words according to the phonetic rules. This means we use a lot of paper, dry erase markers, crayons, and pencils. We go through these supplies like water each year, and we desperately need your help to replenish our supply.
