Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are curious and energetic, 4 and 5 year olds. They live in one of the most densely populated areas of our large city. Many of the families at my school are immigrants from various places around the world. They love school and the friendships they form there. But sometimes they miss mom, dad, or another significant person. Sometimes they need help regulating their strong emotions. Sometimes, they need tools and strategies to help them identify and work with their challenging emotions.
We know that students who learn to regulate their challenging emotions do better academically and socially.
The weighted book and butterfly will help my students when they need that extra sensory input to help them feel calm and secure. They will be especially helpful for my students with ADHD and those on the autism spectrum. The Calming Cuddle Bug and Calming Cuddle Ball will help when students need a sensory experience that also feels nurturing. Everyone loves play dough. My students are always happy when we play with play dough, and I always notice that they are much calmer when they are working with play dough. The play carpet will be a great addition to our outdoor play area. Students can use it with our classroom dinosaurs, or with other toys. The breathing board will give students hands-on practice with calm breathing. All of the items I am requesting will be a great help in our goal to learn to regulate our challenging emotions. When we can do that, we can treat ourselves and others with kindness. And that is the most important lesson of all.
