This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 6 classes of 6th-grade math. Many of my students enjoy coming to school because it is a safe place for them to learn and socialize with their friends. My 6th graders have a wide range of abilities and many struggle in their classes because of a lack of resources, large class sizes, and distractions that they bring from home.
The community in which I teach is very diverse and many students come from low-income households.
There are students from over 47 countries in my school and they speak various different languages. The differences in cultures, languages, and abilites are embraced and celebrated within our building. The students that I get to teach are very unique and I learn a lot from them.
My Project
The supplies in this project will help my students continue to be successful. Markers will help me create visual anchor charts to remind students of skills while the hanging folders help organize assignments for students when they are absent.
My students are more successful and engaged when they are up and moving around the room.
Laminating pouches will help me to create task card assignments where students move around to each card and complete the task. With the ability to laminate the cards, materials will last from year to year. When students move around the room for these types of activities, they need clipboards to write on. These extra clipboards will provide me with a whole class set so every student can use one.
