This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is in a low socioeconomic area of the city. We are a Title I school meaning that most students qualify for free or reduced lunch subsidized by the federal government. Many students are dropped off at school around 7:30 am and some aren't picked up until 6 pm.
I teach a class of gifted/ high achieving students.
Many of the students' families come from other countries. Their home language is often something other than English. I have a responsibility to guide my students through the year providing them with new and diverse experiences to make them lifelong learners.
My Project
The supplies I've requested will allow my students to get a good start to their third grade career. I've requested heavy duty plastic folders, since paper ones rip in their desks over the course of the school year. The journal/composition books are also a better quality than the regular spiral notebooks. With these the notebooks and folders, I believe they will last longer. My students will take pride in completing assignments in a non-tattered composition book. These items also help my students with organizational skills.
There are never enough pencils.
If we get pencils, my students will always have something to write with without having borrow from their peers. We won't hear, I don't have a pencil or there are no pencils in the pencil box!!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
