My students need a 50-book 1st Grade Leveled Library, rulers, scissors, 7 caddy carriers, a class rules chart, a high frequency word wall and a set of alphabet and math magnets.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am teaching a wonderful class of first graders that are part of the french program at our school. The fact that I don't speak French, in a school where most teachers are native speakers, is one of my smallest problems.
I have taken over this class in the sixth week of school. I don't know what the previous teacher was doing with the class in earlier weeks, but when I came in there was nothing. In the first grade, beginning to read is very important, and in this class there were very few books for the class to look at and practice with. I have borrowed and begged books from other teachers and brought in most of my library for the class to read, but it just not enough. We also have very few supplies, we have no rulers, scissors, crayons, or paper.
I would like to give my students the best possible chance to learn to read. By adding to the small library that we have, getting a new word wall and the alphamagnets, I can increase their chances of becoming excellent readers. I have a great class and they are anxious to learn to read, I just need the materials to get them headed in the right direction.
Your donation will help ensure that my students are given every opportunity to learn to read. In a time many readers are below their age level, you can help my students to become above level readers.
