Supplies to Engage Students in Project-Based Learning
Help me give my students supplies such as model magic, paper plates, construction paper, markers, and soil so they can participate in project-based learning and be creative.
My students always get excited when they get to do a project! Earth Day is a great opportunity to do a project, and I also strive to incorporate projects into our social studies, science, and math units. The students become more invested in learning without realizing it, and abstract concepts can become more concrete. I also incorporate some just-for-fun projects throughout the year. I have run out of supplies for some of our projects. Due to budget cuts, I cannot replace them.
Your donation will help students create a model of a beach area and simulate an oil spill.
Then, they will be tasked with finding a way to clean up the beach and a bird (a feather) that was caught in the spill. They will also create models of farm fields to experiment with how erosion affects crops and have a contest to see who can best prevent it. In addition, it will allow students to create a diorama demonstrating how location affected the way Indigenous people lived. On Earth Day, I like to make decorations for our classroom or the children's bedrooms using old plastic bags. Many of these projects relate to why we need to take care of our environment and what they can do to help. There are even a couple of books included so we can read and research more about this topic, which is great to learn about, not just on Earth Day, but every day!
Finally, every classroom needs to just have fun once in a while. These supplies will also help us make holiday gifts for families, seasonal art projects, and decorations for our door.
