I have a very diverse group of students who are homeless or come from poverty-stricken homes. Many days it is a struggle for them to get to school on time and have the supplies that are needed to learn. My priority is to make sure that their health, well-being, and learning needs are taken care of.
Although these students experience a lot of trauma, they love school and want to learn.
We just need the supplies and resources to help make it happen.
My Project
STEAM learning covers the areas of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. My students are encouraged to use their problem-solving and critical thinking skills every day. My students do daily projects that support these skills and encourage collaboration. In order to better support my students, they need supplies that are not provided on their school supply lists.
These specific classroom supplies will encourage students’ creativity without limitations.
My students will use the small and large post it paper to brainstorm with partners. The large roll of white paper and markers will allow students to design while working with partners. The laminate and ink will be used on digital projects that will be created and then printed for a finished project. The poster board will be used on their final presentations. The pencil sharpeners, scissors, staplers, erasable pens, highlighters, and tape will be used during the creation of their projects. All of these items are crucial in carrying out the design process to our STEAM projects.
