Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from Houston's Fifth Ward. Many of my students are bilingual, and work during the year to support their families. They attend a rigorous Houston charter school, and all of my students have accepted the challenge of gaining admission to a four year college or university. This year they were negatively impacted by Hurricane Harvey, which caused one of the worst floods in U.S. history.
My students are dedicated to their education, and though they do not always have the resources to succeed, they continuously strive for excellence.
My Project
These materials are necessary for students to prepare for the AP English Literature & Composition exam. To often, once students master an objective, they do not review the objective unless directly instructed. This project will allow students access to the supplies necessary for them to create classroom visuals. These visuals will create a print rich environment for things like grammar, literary devices, thematic connections, prompt breakdowns, vocabulary words, and background information a genre, author, or movement in literary history. My students will benefit from having sticky poster paper as well as markers to create posters. I have also requested school supplies to replenish materials that have depleted since the year started-- such as dry erase markers and pens.
A print rich environment is necessary for student success, but this is especially true for my ESL students.
