Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from hard-working families that often work more than one job to make ends meet. As a result, my students have responsibilities beyond what is expected of their age. They take care of their siblings, they prepare meals, and they take the lead in their education.
Most of my students do not come to their first day of school with a new backpack, a fresh new outfit, nor a flashy pair of sneakers.
Instead, they come with a great attitude, a drive, and a bit of reprieve from their home responsibilities. And so, I try to offer them all the promises any teacher can offer: a stimulating classroom, a nurturing heart, and an educational opportunity.
The students in my room often struggle academically due to all the outside factors they face. Despite these factors, my students are kids with curious minds, playful hearts, and big dreams. I submit my proposals in an effort to encourage their efforts, to inspire their dreams, and to provide the tools to reach their goals.
My Project
The supplies I am requesting are basic supplies any classroom needs. We will use the book binder to publish our writing in Writer's Workshop. The dry erase material will be used in Reader's Workshop to jot notes as we improve our comprehension and practice different reading strategies. We will use the coloring supplies to illustrate our writing, extend our knowledge in science and social studies, and use different strategies in math. And of course, students will use these material creating art and crafts.
The supplies I am requesting will be used in the hands of the students and for the students.
These supplies will be used every day and in every subject. Supplies are not always brought by students, despite every student needing them. I am hoping to begin the year supplying these materials to those students who need them.
