Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a low SES area with both parents working in order to provide for their family; many times it is just not enough. I want to help relieve this pressure by supplying some supplies which will be necessary this next school year in order to be successful.
We are a small Title I school, but very community driven.
The students either walk or are escorted by their parents - we are so such a tight community school, buses are not necessary. Many families have more than one child so sometimes getting the necessary school supplies are a hardship. As a teacher, I am faced daily with helping the students have the necessary tools to allow them to complete their assignments so they can achieve the requirements to advance in education.
My Project
We are requesting composition books for interactive notebooking, Time for Kids - not in budget & informational text reading, & pencils because they always need pencils. This year I am teaching Math and Science which I am looking forward to, but Math especially seems to be a struggle for the majority of our students. I am going to implement interactive notebooking in both the subjects I teach to help the students keep all their notes and necessary information in one collective but fun exercise. I am hoping introducing this strategy will help strengthen the students' Math skills and give them another tool they can utilize in their future education endeavors.
Fulfilling this project will help my students have the necessary supplies for learning this year along with helping to alleviate the strain on the family finances, especially multiple child families.
