I am an English Language Arts Special Education Teacher. My students have been identified for special education services based on their need for specific supports and accommodations to be successful in the general education curriculum due to their varying disabilities. My students are reluctant to take risks in learning and lack confidence from their continuous struggles to learn in traditional ways. However, they are inquisitive, creative, and thoughtful. They are energetic and need engaging materials to help keep their focus. Remote/hybrid learning is a challenge for these students as they do not read on grade level and require many adaptive materials to support them in reading and to aid them in managing their space, organization, and attention. My students come from a poor socioeconomic area which impacts their ability to always be prepared with supplies. In normal times, I would supply materials for classroom use but due to social distancing, we are not sharing items. Most of my students learn best through hands-on activities. I would love help supplying them with adaptive seating, attention aids, assistive technology, and personal supply boxes. Help me help them to continue to grow. Thank you.
My Project
This project provides students with the supplies they need both in class and at home to set them up for success. This project will give these students the ability to continue to learn no matter which setting they find themselves in. Many of my students do not have the means in order to obtain the required supplies for their educational needs. In a normal class setting, these items would most likely be provided between teacher resources and PTA partnerships, however, with the back and forth of the current environment with COVID, these students struggle even more to keep pace with the requirements and educational goals.
