My students are from an inner city community located in New York City. In our school we have over 1,100 students that have immigrated from various countries around the world. Many of our parents work more than one job in order to provide for their children.
Our school is a Title One school that receives funding for many intervention services.
Some of those services help students in reading, math and English as a new language. These services help struggling students reach their highest potential of learning.
My Project
Please help in restocking our classroom's art supplies.
This year my class has been working hard learning about all the different genres of writing.
They have learned how to work independently as well as in cooperative groups. Each time the students complete an assignment I want to showcase what they have learned.
One way that I do this is have the students create an art project that highlights their writing assignment. This is where the students are able to express themselves in a creative way. Some ways the students display their writing is by attaching a sketch, a drawing or a watercolor painting to their published piece. When the students are working in groups sometimes they create a large group poster. This poster incorporates each student’s idea and artistic flare. When their work is done, I proudly display it inside the classroom, outside in the hallway, or on large bulletin boards for everyone one to see.
