Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an integrated collaborative teaching (ICT) first-grade class, with a mixture of general and special education students at a high-needs Title I school in the Bronx. While the majority of students come from low-income homes or from homes with limited parental involvement, they are enthusiastic and come to school every day ready to learn. They see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and love to make me proud.

My first graders are some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and they inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

Now that the school year is in full swing, we are actively utilizing resources to help us apply concepts taught through centers, small group instruction, and games. This being said, we are going through supplies such as dry erase markers, paper and batteries rather quickly. We use dry erase markers multiple times throughout the day in small group instruction, so they dry out before we know it! The batteries are needed to get our listening center activated as well as other games targeted to reinforce literacy and mathematical concepts. The paper, as well as color ink, is needed to print out the centers for students. They are so enthusiastic and excited to work in centers, and I would love to continue to be able to provide that for them. The pocket chart is needed to display their Fundations material in an organized and cohesive way. Currently, the materials are not available to students to access because there is no way to hold them up. The magnets and hooks will be used to hang up resources within the classroom for students to access as they work independently. The pocket chart would solve that issue.

These supplies would make a world of difference in my students’ learning and engagement.
