My students need so many things to have a successful year. Basic supplies that are needed to teach. Yes, we have to buy our own paper. This would be a huge help to my students! WE need notebooks, rulers and more.
I have a K-5 grade classroom with students that have emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and autism. My students come from a variety of backgrounds with some living with only one parent who works or is going to school. We also have quite a few students that live with foster parents and have had many changes in their lives. Several of the students in my class come from homes where another language is spoken and many students qualify for free and reduced lunches. I do work in a title one school where a lot of the parents are working two or three jobs and there is not a lot of home support in many homes because the parents are just not home or they are busy.
It kind of seems like a three ring circus at times in my room because my aide could be teaching reading, while I am teaching writing and there could be a student finishing a test that I have to read to him/her at the same time.
I have great students and I love them all dearly and would love for them to have the same things that other students have.
My Project
If I received these supplies from School Smart, I would be able to start out the year right. As a special education teacher, we often get forgotten when supplies are given out. We need the same supplies as everyone else and sometimes more so, since we teach multiple grade levels. My students would be able to start out the year with new supplies and not have to wait until I can afford them. I laminate at home since we don’t have one at school. Lamination sheets are needed to keep things in good condition from year to year.
