My Students

My students are diverse learners in different stages of development. They are amazing, inquisitive leaders who show love and kindness to each other. Although some may have difficult lives, my students come to school with smiles on their faces. They are our future and they are truly amazing people.

There are some things we can control and others we simply cannot.

Our ability to distinguish between them is critical to our happiness and wellbeing. Sometimes unexpected stuff will happen to us or around us. Our true power lies in our response. - Author: Clifton Anderson

Coronavirus happened to my students' world unexpectedly. Their school was shut down after spring break with 9 more weeks of school left. As a teacher, I have been teaching my students through Distance Learning activities using Zoom meetings. Teaching online is a lot different than teaching in a classroom. The resources I have been using to teach have been a packet and reading books to my students. I have been reading books and doing a lot of directed drawings.

My Project

These items are needed so that my students can continue to succeed when we close during the school year for distance learning. Each student will receive an Advantus Crafts Storage Studios Super Stacker Crayon Box, box of 24 Crayola crayons, and Multicultural crayons to be used at home for distance learning activities. A few examples of activities my students will be using these materials for include directed drawings, diversity activities using the Multicultural crayons, math activities (ordinal numbers), English Language Arts activities (using the crayons to underline phonics sounds, underline answers in text, circling nouns/verbs etc...).

Distance learning shouldn’t be a casual joy ride on a Sunday afternoon with the cruise control engaged.

The sole purpose of distance learning is to teach.

I will make math fact and sight word flashcards and print them on the card stock. These will be sent home with my students so they can practice both.

The magnetic business cards will be used to hold reward cards. I will send home these magnetic business cards with a distance learning reward card attached. For example, one reward card will be a Reading Reward Card. When a student completes a Google Classroom reading assignment they can fill in a circle. Once all the circles are filled a reward will be eating lunch with me during Zoom. I will mail my students more reward cards when they need more. When our distance learning is finished I will mail each student one of the Emoji pins with a card attached that says, "I am all smiles because you were in my class this year."

Lastly, ever student will need a special pencil and erasers at home while they are doing their distance learning activities!
