This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a new Biology Research teacher in high school, I feel obligated to open the doors of modern science to my students. We all felt amazed the first time we saw all those living creatures swimming freely in pond water. My students are equally amazed every time they work with real tools and real specimens.
The "Bull-Nation" is comprised of the students at our school, their families, and our school proud staff.
I am very lucky to work with the students because they show me every day how far we can go when we put adversity aside and we focus on the well being of our families. One of the many adversities my students face is lack of resources and lack of real specimens. My students live in the 21st century outside of school, but when they walk in school they travel back hundreds of years of scientific discovery and equipment.
My students like to be part of the real biology work force. They like to dissect, measure, aliquot, and micropippette along with everything else that a real biologist does.
My Project
My research students have a lot going on while in class. They look at microscope slides, they make short presentations to their classmates among many other fun and educative activities. I want to make them feel empowered of their learning process. I also want them to have a connection with the scientific world outside of their classroom.
For that reason I am providing them with a sample of the tools needed to conduct research in high school.
Many projects await them and I am exited about the prospect of their work. My students have great potential and these tools will allow them to express all of their scientific might. They will use the markers and erasers for whiteboard modeling presentations, the microscope camera for analyzing complex slides with the entire class and the weight scales to measure the weight of specimens and compounds.
