Supplies for Success

Help me give my students the basic supplies needed to be successful in class. They require calculators to successfully compute algebraic equations and colored pencils to complete maps and graphs.

My Students

I am a teacher of 7th and 8th-grade students with social and behavioral needs. These students come from a low socio-economic area. They come to school without basic school supplies and materials to participate in class.

Not having the basic supplies to be successful contributes to their lack of self-esteem and behavioral issues.

They are embarrassed by not having the supplies and mask it by acting out for negative attention. Every student should have the opportunity to be successful when they walk in my classroom door.

My Project

My 7th and 8th grade students are learning to solve algebraic equations and do not have the financial support at home to purchase scientific calculators to support their learning in the classroom. They are too prideful to ask for financial help and typically act out or refuse to work to avoid the embarrassment of not being able to afford a calculator.

By having the necessary supplies, my students can have the opportunity to participate and develop the skills necessary to be successful in math.

These calculators will remain in my class and will be checked out to students as needed. This will eliminate the need for the student to feel self-conscious that they do not have the required supplies.
