My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. One-third of our students come from outside of our district. The parents of these students are looking for a better educational environment for their children. Because of this high number of students from out of the district, we have both a high transient population and a high poverty rate.

In spite of these challenges, we have a great group of students who are very curious about the world around them.

We have both seventh and eighth grade students with a total school population close to 500 students. Our students have the opportunities to participate in a variety of different classes, sports and clubs. We strive to give our students a well-rounded education.

My Project

Because of the poverty level of my school district, many parents do not have the ability to provide basic supplies for their children. Many of my students show up each class without the basic tools to succeed. By funding this grant, you will be helping my students start their day with all of the basic supplies they need to get through the day. In order to be successful, students need pencils and pens with which to write, markers to complete projects, as well as paper on which to create masterpieces. These are the basic supplies that parents in poverty can often not provide for their children and that we, as teachers, must provide our students.

Learning is often delayed when children do not have the supplies they need.

Class time is interrupted for all students while a child attempts to find what he or she needs from his or her peers. By having the supplies for them in my classroom, I will be able to provide the needed materials to those students who do not have them, thus preventing any learning loss time for all students in the class.
