My students need access to various school supplies to make their learning environment more organized and engaging. We need Construction paper, sticky notes and more.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 3rd grade classroom is a safe haven where students feel a sense of belonging and respect in a world they may often feel at odds with. My students in Baltimore come from a variety of backgrounds and diverse cultures. Some of them are brand new to the country, not speaking any English, while others a native English speakers or bilingual. 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch every day and the majority come from single parent homes. Most students live in high poverty and have parents that did not graduate from high school or go to college.
These children are excited to learn and explore, but often do not have access to the tools to help them be successful.
Each day, I try to transport them from their harsh realities into a place of discovery and learning, pushing them to be critical thinkers and excited for a challenge.
My Project
School supplies are necessary for every child to succeed. Many students come into my class in the beginning of the year unprepared and discouraged because they cannot afford many of the supplies they need. Even having a pencil supplied for them can be the difference between failure and success for some students. This project will help students have access to consumable supplies and tools to help them learn and succeed.
Items like pencils, glue, Post-Its, and paper will be part of community supplies accessible in centers or use for assignments or projects.
When students don't have to worry about basic classroom needs, they will be ready to participate as active learners.
