Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first day of chemistry class I had to step on a wet towel at the doorstep and then walk on small pebbles of white material. Each step made a crackling sound! It was very exciting! I'd like to bring this kind of experience and excitement to motivate my students.
I teach in a New York State Public School.
My class is comprised of inner-city kids who are from various ethnic and economic backgrounds and have various reading and writing levels. There are also many students who have learning disabilities. Given the right learning supplies and activities, they are very capable of understanding the science concepts and excelling in this subject.
My Project
These resources will provide my students with lab and class activity materials for the most of the fall semester.
1."Safe and Simple Rules of the Lab Safety Game" will be used first to help students learn how to follow the lab protocols.
2. "Chemistry Study Cards and Interactive CD-Rom Kit" will help students to increase their participation in class and learn difficult concepts.
3. The "Flame Test Kit" is the introductory experiment in using real life elements.
4. "Atomic Theory Kit" allows for hands on model building of atoms to make the concept of atomic structure come to life.
5. "Mendeleev Periotic Table Simulator" introduces physical and chemical properties of different elements.
Chemistry concepts can be hard to grasp solely through explanation, to tackle these concepts, varied methods, such as hands on activities, simulations and experiments, are important to the development of student understanding of chemistry and for motivation in the field of science.
The requested supplies will help my students throughout this fall semester.
These supplies will provide them with hands on activities to better understand chemistry concepts and motivate students to do well in science.
