I teach 5th grade in a class of diverse students. I feel grateful daily to have the honor of being their teacher. My class is full of smart, fun, and curious students whose needs are vast. My class ranges from a 2nd grade level in reading all the way up to a 7th grade level. I also have the pleasure of teaching kids on the autism spectrum. Therefore, I have many challenges to reach them all. All of these love-bugs need new literature within the class to develop a lifelong love of reading and writing.
In the words of Walt Disney, "We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." Regardless of their level, they push to learn.
As much as I teach my students every day, they teach me too. No matter their station in life, these kids are accepting of each other and help to be the best versions of themselves.
My Project
Fifth grade is an intense year in my students educational career. As educators we are preparing them to leave the home they've known for 6-7 years and go to middle school.
The work we do here in my 5th grade class helps to prepare my students not only for middle school, high school and college, but for life!
With that being said, for as hard as we work, we go through a ton of supplies.
With our writing curriculum, the number of copies being made to supply the students with their articles is enormous but necessary. We do plenty of coloring and post it work with literature and it is a great mystery but I am convinced that 5th graders eat pencils. By the middle of the year, markers have gone missing and no one has a pencil to write with. These supplies would help the students tremendously.
