This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students might only be in 5th grade, but they are the future writers of the world. They might come from an urban environment, but they walk into a warm and welcoming classroom where students aspire to be unique with their words. Breakfast is free to all students and served in the classroom.

The streets where the students come from has seen an outbreak in crime this summer but my students are rejuvenated with our brightly colored walls and open minds.

My Project

In order to write a story, my students need to have sharp pencils to go with their sharp minds. Students need to comment on each others work to help inspire their work with post it notes. For any start of the school year teachers need the basic supplies. Students need to hang up their work by laminating it, stapling it to the wall or taping it.

I yearn to create a classroom climate where children can learn strategies to become lifelong readers and writers no matter what is going on in their home/personal life.

This might mean students take turns at the white board, or can take one of my pencils instead of worrying that they left theirs at home. My focus is to build them up and instill strong work ethics and positive mindset and having what ever they need awaiting them when they walk into the classroom. I want to make sure they know how to light up their work with their own enthusiasm and highlighters while learning how to code it.

Learning how to read and write correctly is a gift for students. If they have a passion for reading and writing they can escape or build their own land filled with their passion. I am grateful for being able to venture along with them.
