Help me give my students basic supplies that they need to be successful in school!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Every day my scholars come to school ready to learn and grow as part of our 4th grade family! Once a week we join the rest of lower academy in the gym for morning assembly. As assembly ends you will hear "Where are you headed? College! Will you succeed? YES! When you succeed, what will you do? Change history and give back to my community!!!" This is the chant that our fabulous scholars recite as they exit dismissal and head eagerly back to class to learn! They say it with conviction and I believe them 100%.
My scholars face unimaginable challenges but are working hard daily to change their own story as well as the history of their community!
I teach in a high needs public school in Milwaukee where a very small percentage of our scholars are on grade level in reading or math and 100% of our scholars receive free breakfast and lunch daily. In my classroom I get the privilege of teaching 65 scholars math every day. These scholars often struggle with basic math concepts and it is up to me to not only provide them with instruction of grade level content and build their confidence.
To do your job you need to have the correct supplies! I tell my scholars every day that their job right now is to be excellent scholars and obtain the best education that they can. How can we expect them to do this if they are constantly searching for basic supplies such as pencils and dry erase markers?
Nothing is impossible -- WITH THE RIGHT SUPPLIES!!!
I work every day to ensure that my students understand that nothing is impossible for them to achieve. I want them to know that regardless of where they have come from, or the challenges they face outside of school they can and WILL obtain a high quality education and be successful in life. The supplies in this project will help me take one more challenge off their plate by ensuring that they always have the basic supplies that they need to be successful in school.
