"I can remember the frustration of not being able to talk. I knew what I wanted to say, but I could not get the words out, so I would just scream." -Dr. Temple Grandin, professor, best-selling author, autism activist, and consultant.
I travel to neighborhood schools located in Charleston, South Carolina to provide speech-language therapy in elementary schools.
Students are diagnosed with autism or developmental delays and have Individualized Education Programs specially designed to meet their needs. All of my students require speech-language therapy as part of their individualized programs.
Speech-language therapy focuses on the individual needs of each child and is embedded in classrooms. Teachers and therapists work together to decrease frustration by increasing communication skills.
With Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards, activities, and resources created by Speech-Language Pathologists can be purchased for speech therapy and home language enrichment. With specially designed activities, students will learn to make requests, develop vocabulary skills, and produce sounds to speak more clearly. As speech and language skills grow, students will be able to communicate with peers and adults in the classroom, on the playground, and at home.
