This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a first-year teacher getting ready to welcome my second graders, I am beyond excited to create a classroom that feels like a safe, welcoming, and joyful place to learn and grow. My students will come from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their own unique strengths, stories, and needs—and I want them to know from Day One that they are valued and supported.

The items on my wishlist will help me build a learning environment that encourages focus, collaboration, and a love for reading.

The classroom rug will be the heart of our space—a gathering place for morning meetings, read-alouds, and community-building activities. The stools will offer flexible seating options, giving students the choice to move and learn in the way that works best for them. The books will help me begin to build a classroom library full of stories that reflect who my students are and open their eyes to new worlds. And the timer will help keep our learning structured and smooth, supporting students as they transition between tasks.
