My Project

I teach high school students with moderate to severe disabilities. All of my students, especially those on the autism spectrum, require specialized sensory support to access their learning environment. This often comes in the form of flexible seating.

My students work best in a flexible, comfortable environment that supports their sensory needs.

Tables and desk are often not ideal working arrangements for my students as they restrict movement and provide little sensory input. With this in mind, I have purchased numerous bean bag chairs, gamer chairs, and floor pillows over the years. Additionally, several of my students enjoy auditory stimulation throughout the day and listen to music on their devices for a calming technique. Headphones, like flexible seating options, get a lot of use in my room. These materials are used so frequently they often are worn out by the end of the year or even semester. After using much of my own money to purchase both headphones and flexible seating options, I created this project for help to continuing providing for the sensory needs of my students.
