Every day students enter my classroom with a desire to learn and grow. They are curious about the world and each other. My science students explore the world through scientific inquiry, and engineering to develop an understanding of how things work and begin to creatively design their own solution to everyday problems. My AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students work diligently to learn skills and strategies that will help them become college and career ready.
Many of my students come from different cultures with more than 26 different native languages spoken at home in our school.
I also have ELL (English Language Learners) and special education students integrated into all of my classes. Every day, I work hard at differentiating my instruction to meet the needs of all of these students.
My Project
Success in science class requires students have the tools and supplies needed to show their learning. Often my students come to class without the basic supplies, making it hard for my students to engage in class. Being able to provide my students with even just a pencil to record notes and writing in their science notebook will allow me to provide every student that needs a pencil with one. My students record all of their learning in an interactive notebook. Tape will be used to attach handouts or graph paper into student notebooks.
Every day my students engage in their learning by showing their learning or applying what they have learned in visual ways.
This includes creating posters to show models to explain a scientific concept. Chart paper and markers will allow my students to easily show their thinking for all to see. Dry erase markers on my class set of whiteboards are used daily to create graphs, write procedures for scientific investigations, and work in teams to solve a problem.
