This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My aspiring 5th grade readers need your help to get supplies into their hands. Students in my 5th grade English Language Arts class are entering into their first year of middle school, which can be quite daunting for a 10 or 11 year old. In 5th grade, students are transitioning from learning how to read, to reading to learn. Learners in my classroom will learn essential skills in reading, writing, and language that will not only help them in school but in life after graduation. Students will use the supplies in this project to create notebooks to keep the skills they are learning in class into one place. Our students do not carry backpacks, so some of these supplies will help keep their materials organized and ready for daily use in my classroom.

Our school's learners are a diverse group of students.

They come from all walks of life. One thing they have in common, however, is that their families struggle to make ends meet. We are a Title 1 school on the south side of our city. Asking families to purchase school supplies for their students is a big ask. Being able to provide the necessary supplies for my learners relieves some stress on the students and their families. Every student in my classroom will get the supplies they need to be successful because of donations to this project. For that, I will be very grateful.
