This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our neighborhood school in Detroit once had a booming jazz program and produced several world renowned jazz artists and even performed at international jazz festivals. The community still values its band programs, but has hit hard times recently.
My students are excited to jump into the art of playing instruments and look forward to carrying on the legacy of our high school.
They are full of energy and excitement and are very passionate about music. Many of them have expressed that music is a tool they use to feel better about their life and escape from stress of every day life. This would deliver an important support system to students who need and deserve it.
My Project
These reeds and neck straps will enable my students to play and practice the saxophone and clarinet. I've chosen plastic reeds because they are far more durable and cost effective to prevent having to spend more money on this more frequently.
My students are ready and excited to learn the saxophone and clarinet, by donating you will enable our students to better participate and enjoy our music program.
We are rebuilding our program and this year we have three beginner bands and a jazz big band. We are aiming to be a traveling jazz band that competes in festivals and competitions and this will go miles toward making that happen. Thanks for your support!
