My Students

I have the privilege to teach Earth and Life science to an energetic group of middle school students. My students live in a rural community, with farming as the main industry. Many of them have grown up together and they are quite close.

Inquiry based learning is an important part of my classroom and my students are constantly asking questions and looking for answers.

Their questions are often thoughtful and eye opening. There are times when I won't have the answer to their questions and they will take them time to research the answer and inform me. I look forward to coming to school each day and helping these students learn and become young adults.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting will go toward supplying a habitat for classroom reptile, a bearded dragon. Animals in the classroom help students to better understand the animal kingdom and how organisms impact an ecosystem.

By having a reptile in my classroom, I hope to enrich my student's classroom experience.

During my Life Science classes, students will be able to compare and contrast how our classroom animal differs from other groups of animals. They will see first hand different behaviors as well as understand the needs of this reptile.

Finally, by having an animal in the classroom, my students will learn skills such as animal care and husbandry. They will help take responsibility for this animal on a daily bases. My hope is to instill in them a sense of responsibility and respect towards animals.
