Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager and curious first graders who love every opportunity to learn. They greet each day with excitement and show such excitement for new experiences.

Every day, students listen to books intently, learn through games, learn social skills, and revel at new learning.

First grade students are sponges for learning; this is a formative year in learning foundational reading and math skills. Watching them learn is one of my greatest joys!

My Project

With the way our first grade team functions, I have the fortunate opportunity to work with EVERY child in the grade at some point during the school day. With all those students entering my classroom each day, I am requesting adequate materials to support our learning throughout the year while also adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.

The only thing we know for sure about this school year is simple: we will always need to be ready for change.

The materials requested in this project will cover EVERYTHING that students will need for learning this year. Routine supplies such as glue, scissors, folders, and writing journals will cover our learning needs. Since COVID-19 guidelines prohibit students from sharing supplies, I am requesting large quantities to ensure they will have adequate personal supplies for the school year.

I am also requesting specific materials to support COVID-19 guidelines and concerns. Mesh zipper pouches and ziploc bags will support students in keeping track of all their personal supplies. Hand sanitizer will allow for frequent hand sanitation. Pencil sharpeners will allow students to keep their own pencils, rather than sanitizing the group-used pencils each day.

Lastly, in order to provide the most equitable hybrid learning experience for ALL students, I have requested additional materials to ensure they are getting full educational experiences at home. Sidewalk chalk, construction paper, and additional crayons to support creativity, jump ropes and skip toys to support physical development, and cardboard book boxes to support their ability to organize school supplies at home. Dry erase clipboards will allow them to engage in hands-on learning while learning from home.

Many of my students do not have ANY learning materials at home, so this project will give them the materials needed to learn and love (online) school!
