This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a diverse group of middle school students. Each student comes with their own strengths and abilities, but they all have one thing in common: their desire to learn.

Students with learning disabilities deserve a classroom environment equipped with the materials needed to help them succeed.

For example, headphones are used by struggling readers to listen and following along with audiobooks and to listen to relaxing music during independent work times. Chair pockets and folders with clear fronts for daily schedules and checklists are used to support student independence with their materials and promote organization. Items like sensory tile mats and fidgets help to emotionally regulate students who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or distracted. Each item in my shopping cart has been thoughtfully chosen with my students and their needs in mind.

Our school does an amazing job at providing for students of all disability levels, but there are times when outside resources are needed, and this is when we ask for your help! Some of these materials seem basic, and others might not solve an obvious problem, but they all meet an immediate need for my students, whether it be a tool for emotional regulation, organizational support, or daily learning materials.

My students and I are so thankful for all those who donate to our projects. Your generosity is so greatly appreciated.
