Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a class of 30 in a neighborhood where everyone is on free lunch. Half of my class speaks Spanish but everyone loves to learn. Its my first year teaching, I'm excited to share my love with my students but I don't have the resources to do everything that I would love to do. They love to read books that they can relate to. They are a great bunch and they are wanting to learn new and exciting things everyday.
My Project
Each student will have his or her own pencil case, in the pencil case will be 5 pencils (one for each day of the week), a highlighter, and an eraser. They are to use those supplies throughout the week, at the end of the week, I will look in the cases and see what they need and refill each one of them for the next week.
No need to worry about a pencil anymore.
The poem "Cause I Ain't Got a Pencil" by Joshua T Dickerson, describe what a lot of students go through just in the morning, some of my students have a lot they worry about and pencil should not be one of them, this is one way we as teachers can help our students succeed.
We do a lot of highlighting with different colors and students are constantly in need of crayons and markers, those boxes should help them be able to learn how they need to.
