My students are energetic, hopeful, and eager to learn. They love school and learning! They spend the day singing, reading, playing, and not knowing how much they're learning.
We have supportive families who give all they can, even though our school is a Title I School with 100% of our kids offered a free breakfast to start the day.
The kids and their families value the school and support us as best they can, but sometimes we all need a little help to help us grow!
My Project
Have you ever been that one child or person to stick out? Have you ever been unprepared?
I want to prevent my new kindergarteners and their families from school supply stress next school year!
Many of our families have multiple children in school and back-to-school time can be financially draining. Some families are unable to provide, while other families cannot afford to buy the better quality supplies. (Have you ever compared off brand crayons to Crayola? Most of the time, the difference in color is astounding.) Still, some families buy all the supplies, but may feel strain elsewhere. I'd like to be able to tell my future students that our class does not have a supply list this year!
If kindergarteners don't have to worry about who has the better looking crayons, why they don't have a folder and their classmates do, or other differences between their supplies and their friends, they are freed up to worry about bigger issues. However, even more importantly, if kindergarteners and their families can be less stressed about money at back-to-school time, the kids can worry about 'kid problems;' for example, who will be their friend, will their teacher be nice, how to get from the classroom to the bathroom and back.
When the kindergarteners can focus on school (not supplies or stress at home), I can help them through their first days and get them on the path to success.
