Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our high school is one of the oldest in California. My students come from diverse backgrounds and deal with issues often associated with low socioeconomic conditions. My students have different disabilities, but they all have big hearts. They come to school daily with huge smiles and are ready to work. We work on applied curriculum and functional living skills. In addition to academics, we practice things like social skills and cooking.
I am lucky to be their teacher.
I truly have the best job! They're an amazing group of kids.
My Project
We currently have a subscription to Scholastic News Magazine. They are wonderful! My students enjoy reading them.
It would be great to have these three subscriptions as well.
Students can practice reading fluency and comprehension. They will also enjoy the pictures. They enjoy looking at the photos and cartoons throughout magazines. The different subscriptions will allow extra practice outside of our textbooks. We will go through the articles together and answer comprehension questions. These Scholastic magazine subscriptions would be a great addition to our class for supplemental reading that they enjoy reading. My students really enjoy reading the Scholastic News magazines, so I’m sure they’ll love these as well.
