Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have been using SuperStem magazine for the past two years and have been loving the information rich texts that they have been seeing. They are engaged and participate more when they have access to Science texts. It has opened up new possibilities for my students when they are able to see potential careers they may have in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. I have loved being able to see their imaginations grow and their problem solving skills increase.

We have been using this magazine for all subject areas in our classroom and it has become crucial to our day.

We use the stories in our writing lessons to learn how to research and give opinions. We have been able to use the passages in reading for comprehension using the online resources as our assignments and assessments. We have used the experiments to get our hands dirty and watch science come to life. To say my students have fun using these each month is an understatement.

I teach special education in a Title I school. My students continue to amaze me each day with their desire to learn and willingness to go out of their comfort zone to make progress on their IEP goals. I have the luxury of having them in my class for multiple years so we have formed a close bond and I love to bring them alternate strategies for learning and these magazines have been our joy over the last two years. My students deserve the world and this is one small way I can make their education experience more memorable.
