My students are a captivating, charismatic and courageous group of second graders at a Title I school in Florida.

They are always eager to learn more and love technology. Our school has a wide range of diverse backgrounds, interests and learning abilities. They all share the need to explore, research and apply their knowledge.

My Project

Last year, we had three iPads donated to our classroom through Donors Choose! We are back again to increase the iPads in our classroom. As we add more iPads into our classroom, the way we utilize technology continues to increase. Our goal this year is to have enough iPads for each pair of students! Technology integration in the classroom opens new doors to a student’s ability to think critically and explore new creative outlets. As a new change, my classroom departmentalized and now your donation will impact twice as many students as before. Students can use technology in math to use apps to increase their knowledge in each content area from adding three-digit addition to telling time by the hour. They can use QR codes to check higher order thinking problems or create their own problems. In science, students will use iPads to view real-world concepts such as life-cycles and animal habitats. They allow teachers to differentiate instruction to match the needs of our students on a daily basis helping them become more successful students.

This project will significantly impact my student’s lives because many do not have the access to technology at home.

Our world is more computer-based programs than ever before. It is important that we prepare our students to become successful individuals.
