Supercharge Our Robocars

Help me give my students battery power for their robot cars. The students discovered a need for more power and to connect sensors to the robot car. The nuts bolts and spacers help us expand.

My Students

My students are learning physics, engineering and robotics this year. They want to be able to apply these skills to solve problems.

Many of my students plan to be the first person in their family to go to college.

They want to learn how to build and design along with their physics theories in an effort to be better prepared for project based learning in college.

This diverse group of boys and girls are preparing to be on a robotics team at our school. They want to improve their understanding of physics so that they can apply physics theory to robotics.

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!

My Project

We have arrived at the third month of our projects for this 2 days a week class. We have been learning on zoom how to make parts of an Arduino programming and STEM kit do what they want by following wiring diagrams and modifying computer programs. For example, lighting an LED, making a stepper motor clock and many other items. Infused in this training we plan to have inspirational videos about robotics, STEM and careers.

We plan to use the Arduino kit to teach physics concepts such as mechanical advantage, gear ratio, leverage and many others.

For the career part we plan to use the IF/THEN videos to inspire our students.

In the second part of the class student are on their own creatively using sensors, outputs, and computer programming to control a printed circuit board called Arduino Mega.

This fundraiser is to help give their final projects more power and versatility. We have reached a point where we learned that the junk we have at home does not have enough power to run our motors. We still plan to have a contest in November. The students who are voted to have created the best Automation Creation will win one of several prizes. These parts will help accelerate the developments of our projects.

Students will make a car which they will enter in the contest. The items in this project are the batteries, motor power supplies and sensor connectors. They get to choose what to put on the wheels to move around. We hope that they will be able to build an automated car just like Tesla... well without the billions in funding.

The plan is to create a fun challenge which helps students prepare for future college challenges such as the one engineering students get at UC Universities.
