I am currently a 1st grade teacher in a low-income school in NC. It is my greatest wish to give everything I can to my students to prepare them to be successful learners. I am constantly taking classes to learn more myself so I can be the best I can be. I am particularly interested in helping students learn to read and become literate. In my efforts I have learned both professionally and personally that the greatest divide between low-income students and their higher-income counterparts is their vocabulary.
We don't have very many fun ways to teach vocabulary and keep our students involved and expanding their word knowledge in our classrooms. Vocabulary development is essential to helping these children perform better in future grades. I have found a few items that will help my students increase their word power while also having fun. This would be an excellent edition to my room enabling me to help these student and countless more to use words they don't often get exposed to in their non-school environment. Please help me give children a vocabulary to speak their mind and express themselves eloquently.
