My Students

First graders are like sponges and absorb everything you teach them. I love how energetic they are when you present new activities to them. Their eyes light up and their smile gets bigger and bigger, and you know you've made a connection.

I have future teachers, nurses, doctors, and leaders in my classroom.

Our school is located in the heart of rural Appalachia in South Eastern Kentucky. Many students are in the backpack food program and 100% of our school receives free lunch. Being from a low socioeconomic background and area doesn't stop them from learning; it just takes place a little differently. Working in small groups allows students to work on tasks on their own individual level and be successful.

My Project

We all know that students learn best when they have the supplies they need to complete the task. These basic supplies will help my first grade students to learn to their best ability.

Most of these supplies will be used daily.

Pencils, paper, crayons, erasers, but others as needed during projects. The crayon sharpener would be a tremendous help because many students bear down so hard on their crayons and they become hard to use, especially in small spaces. With this, students can have sharp crayons all the time and will use them for a longer period.

The lined paper with the clouds and flowers is great to teach tall and short letters. This is so important when learning correct letter formation and this paper is perfect for that.
