This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year my 5th grade class is boy-heavy! Out of 23 students, I have 18 boys enrolled in my class. We are up and moving A LOT!!! We are LOUD!!! We are SMART!!! This class has such personality! I have never had a group of students who are so intent in getting their work completed and completed correctly! We succeed at most things because we are so competitive. This class of all others compliments my teaching and learning style best.

Our classroom is predominately Hispanic and economically disadvantaged.

I am always in search of finding new and innovative ways to better teach literacy to my students.

Room 32 has experienced some heartbreak this year. We are a close-knit community in our classroom and when someone hurts, we all hurt. We have students who have lost parents and who are discovering who they are as young adults. I want my students prepared in the best way possible and I need guided reading books to aid in teaching literacy.

My Project

Every year I spend thousands of dollars on supplies for my classroom. We live in an economically disadvantaged area were our community members work hard for the money that we all earn. I have super parent support.

We all want what is best for our kids and sometimes those needs, though small are meaningful in many ways.

I am asking for classroom supplies such as pencils, post it notes and labels. We will utilize clipboards and highlighters so that we can write and move around our classroom. These items will make learning easier and they will add interest for my students as they learn to interact with text and numbers.
