Super Student Supplies

My students need a replenished supply of basic classroom materials such as pencils, privacy partitions and markers.

My Students

Even as adults, we cannot deny the refreshing and energizing feeling of new pencils and crisp, unused markers. My students are no different. Please help us to replace our worn out classroom supplies!

My students are in third grade.

Their ages range from 8 to 10 years old. Our school is located in a low-income, high-crime, inner city neighborhood in northern California. Most of my students come from low income backgrounds and cannot afford many school-day necessities. Many of my students have volatile home lives, yet come to school every day with a smile, ready to learn!

My Project

As young students, many of us took basic school supplies for granted. Our teachers sent home a supply list and were fortunate enough to be able to afford and provide all requested supplies. In my community, most students' families cannot provide basic school supplies. As a result, teachers and generous parents must supply the entire class with basic supplies. My students often must use worn out, second hand supplies and face constant supply shortages that drastically affect the learning environment. A donation of classroom supplies will allow our classroom to spend less time scrounging for supplies and more time learning. These basic supplies allow for more interactive and engaging teaching and consequently, better learning.

My students love doing whiteboard math.

They feel like little teachers, writing and erasing on their whiteboards. Whiteboard math engages my students. But nothing discourages them more than when their marker runs out, and neither myself, nor their parents can afford to keep buying new ones. It may seem like a small factor, but anything that increases student engagement and enjoyment is a big factor in student learning.
