Mrs. Edri from Far Rockaway NY is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 2 bean bag chairs, EZ squeeze balls, 25 seat pockets and magnet dots to organize materials, thereby reducing visual noise.

Could you imagine losing your home, school, and community with the passing of one tide? That is what happened to my students and I on the evening of October 29th as Hurricane Sandy devastated our community. Although we have been displaced from our school and our homes...we are stronger than Sandy!
My kindergarten students and I had been living without heat, hot water, and electricity for about a month.
I, myself, lost countless belongings and a car as my house was flooded by the Atlantic Ocean. Our classroom has been moved to a temporary school, forty minutes away while our school is being repaired. Presently, we are attempting to re-create our "old" classroom here in our temporary school to provide the students with some sort of familiar routine and normalcy in our new chaotic lives! My Kindergarten students are part of an inclusive classroom in which students with special needs and general education students learn side by side in the same classroom. My students' special needs are varied (speech impaired, autistic, learning disabled, and emotionally disturbed). Each student is unique in personality and needs and I strive to create instruction that meets the needs of all of my diverse learners!
We can not allow a melt-down to stand in the way of getting children college and career ready! The beanbag chairs envelop students who are experiencing a full sensory overload and calms their sensory systems of so that they can be ready to join classroom activities and discussions. In addition, they will also offer a quiet reading/relaxing area for all students. The EZ squeeze stress balls will allow students who are experiencing mild stress or irritation the opportunity to reduce symptoms while never leaving their spot or interrupting learning. The seat pockets will help us to organize literacy and math books and materials out of sight while keeping them close at hand! The materials are presently in bins on top of the tables, constantly in view and very distracting for 4 and 5 year old children! The magnet dots will allow me to display many visual aids that will also aid in classroom organization.
My students are stressed out and having meltdowns due to all of the change of routine and upheaval in their lives!
Your donations will help them to calm themselves so that they can learn in the least restrictive environment alongside their peers. The seat pockets will provide students with a safe organized area to keep their learning materials. These materials will be used by many students for years to come and will be a therapeutic addition to our classroom!
